Understanding Your Cancer Risk: Why Should I Consider Cancer Genetic Counseling and Testing?
Facilitated By: Jessica Kent Laprise, MS, CGC, Cancer Genetic Counselor, and Jennifer Scalia Wilbur, MS, Clnical Program Manager, Cancer Risk Assessment & Prevention Program, Women & Infants Hospital Program in Women's Oncology
This session will explore the process of hereditary cancer risk assessment including risk factors, genetic counseling, and testing. Case examples of families at risk for hereditary breast, ovarian, and colon cancers will be used to illustrate and answer some of the complex questions often asked by individuals contemplating or undergoing genetic testing.

* Approval for nurses has been obtained by the National Office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society under Provider Number CEP 5832 to award 5.0 continuing education contact hours through the California Board of Registered Nursing and Provider Number 1105 is approved as a provider as well as for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) (www.aswb.org) Approved Continuing Education Program (ACE). Approval Period: 12/2011-12/2014.

The Summit planning committee invites members of The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island to submit abstracts for poster presentations focusing on topic areas that relate to the theme of this year’s Annual Cancer Summit: Personalized Medicine – The Future of Cancer Care. In addition to that topic, abstracts about best practices are encouraged in the areas of cancer prevention, detection & screening, treatment, palliative care, survivorship, workforce development and eliminating or reducing health disparities. A wide diversity of submissions are encouraged, addressing specific issues and approaches that range from- research and evaluation, and theory/model development to practice/program-based foci. Poster sessions will be held at designated times during the conference to allow participants to view research findings and interact with authors.
Abstracts will be reviewed and considered for poster presentations by The Summit Planning committee. Deadline for abstract submissions is May 16, 2011.
